Update Your Wardrobe Or Furniture With This Simple Wallpaper Hack
Many of you loved my Ikea wardrobe hack I posted over on Instagram so I thought I would share with you how to do it yourself!
It was really easy to do and has completely changed the wardrobe and transformed our bedroom simply by using wallpaper. I now love this wardrobe again after being bored with it for so so long!! In fact I love it so much that I also did the sides of my large dresser and they look like they have always been a set!
.
This Ikea wardrobe I’d had for years and years, long before I started Stacey’s Furniture Shop and there was nothing wrong with it, it was too good to throw away. It had plenty of life left in it however it looked rather drab and boring in our bedroom. We were originally planning to build some built in wardrobes in our bedroom and I planned to freecycle this wardrobe but as this isn’t a house we plan to stay in for a very long time it seemed like money we didn’t need to spend.

This is what my Ikea wardrobe looked like before it’s makeover

Our bedroom is neutral with gold and green accents and plenty of textures. Whilst designing our bedroom I’ve had in mind a calming yet cosy space and this huge block of white just wasn’t fitting the scheme. I didn’t want to paint the whole wardrobe and instead give it a different look. I wanted the panelled sections to almost look like they were fabric so I set about searching for an appropriate wallpaper. If you know me, you will know I LOVE stripes, (you can shop your own stripey furniture in my collection here) and ticking stripes in particular are a fave of mine. I found the perfect ticking stripe fabric for my wardrobe in Dunelm and was chuffed with the price at only a tenner a roll!
Here is the finished look! Carry on reading to find out how to re create the look yourself!

Just by adding wallpaper the wardrobe looks more expensive and adds interest to our bedroom

The wallpaper has completely transformed the wardrobe and looks seamless. The stripes compliment the new bedding I have just bought and the whole space now feels very cohesive! If you want to find out how to make your home feel cohesive and seamless, check out this blog post of mine!

Things to remember -
The thinner the paper the more likely it will wrinkle, don’t apply too much adhesive as the wetter it becomes the more it will wrinkle then too.
It sounds obvious but make sure you stick your paper up the right way, if you notice a mistake right away you might be able to remove the paper with not too much damage but leave it on a little too long and you will be left with a right ole mess!!
If you aren’t sure that the wallpaper is right for your furniture or Ikea wardrobe like mine, cut the paper to size and blue tac to your furniture for a few days to see how you like it before committing! Although I am sure you will love it! 💖
