How To Style A Console Table

How To Style A Console Table

Sideboards and consoles are a great opportunity to create a beautiful vignette, especially in your hallway, it is a great way to make a stylish first impression when people enter your home!
Colour, texture and scale are among the most important factors you need to consider when styling accessories. And to curate a cohesive and put together look, no matter what your style, it is important to consider each of your pieces rather than just throwing some random items together and hoping for the best.

Firstly I encourage you to shop your home! By this I mean go round and look at items you already have with fresh eyes. See what works together, bare in mind colour, pattern, texture. Look for frames, artwork, vases, candle holders etc which go with the style you are looking for.
Bring all the pieces you have collected together and start grouping them. Then you can see what you might need to buy in order to complete the look, for example you might just need a lamp or some books to finish your styling.
You will be surprised by what you can find around your home when you look at things through fresh eyes!

The rule of three says that things arranged in odd numbers are more appealing, memorable, and effective than even-numbered groupings. When you see an odd number your eye is forced to move around more, which means we focus more on the objects in front of us and this makes for a more interesting visual experience.
Try placing similar objects together in threes, such as different height vases, or a collection of candles, a tea light, pillar and taper for example.

If the piece of furniture is the talking point then opt for a paired back styling scheme, a simple mirror hung above, and some foliage displayed in a beautiful vase is enough to make an impact!
If symmetry is your thing, your starting point could be a pair of matching table lamps placed at either end, a piece of artwork or mirror hung above, and some carefully selected accessories to go between the two lamps.
Avoid clutter and use a box or a bowl for people to put their keys or most frequently needed items, for consoles or sideboards in your entryway!

In my opinion Studio McGee absolutely nails sideboard and console styling and if I’m ever in need of inspo I know I will find it through them! If you haven’t watched it yet (WHY NOT) check out their series on Netflix ‘Dream Home Makeover’.
